What Is an EFT Couples Intensive?
Why Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples Work?
What exactly is an EFT couples intensive and how is that different than regular couples therapy? Well, if you haven't tried EFT or you've looked into it, you've researched it, but you haven't actually experienced it as a client, you are really in for a treat. I love, love, love, love EFT. I have been the recipient of emotionally focused therapy personally and I've been facilitating EFT couples therapy for two decades. It is so rewarding and it's so effective.
What's different about EFT is we're not really looking to problem solve. There's no teaching communication skills. We're not focused on behavior change alone. We're really working hard to get to the heart of the matter. So, we're looking at the underbelly of what's happening all the time. The assumption is underneath your behavior and those patterns that you get stuck in with your partner, underneath of that are very understandable fears and longings about what it means to be in relationship—to feel close, to feel safe, to feel secure, to feel connected, to feel like you're good enough.
What does that really sound like in the background or underneath that pattern? In EFT, we are constantly tuning into that, cutting through the noise, getting to the heart of the matter so that you can tune in to yourself in each other and send more clear emotional signals.
If you're stuck in sort of the the noise or the, you know, like that repetitive pattern where you feel the same way every time regardless of what you're fighting about, it's like it feels exactly the same. And maybe you tell yourself, "Oh my gosh, here we go again. How can we love each other? And we're smart, right?" Like maybe you've read a bunch about relationships, but here we are again and actually it's getting worse. Like regardless of what you know is not helping move the needle. You don't feel any better. Any problem solving that you do like, "Okay, what did we do wrong? What should we do better?"—like that's not making a difference.
With EFT couples therapy, we're just getting deeper and we're doing it quickly. It's extremely effective. I find it very rewarding personally, professionally to help couples reconnect, find themselves, and reconnect with each other. It it feels like I get to watch them come home, if that makes sense.
So EFT is very special and an EFT intensive is basically what I just described, but in three or four consecutive days. So you could, you know, do EFT couples work in the traditional way or you could choose to do it starting with an intensive and then maybe doing the follow-up work to continue and finish the process.
So I hope that makes sense. I love EFT. I love doing EFT intensives. If you want to know anything more about it or if you want to schedule a free consult with me or one of my colleagues, check out eftmarriageintensive.com.
