Weekly Therapy or an EFT Intensive?
Which format is right for us?

How to make the decision between doing traditional EFT couples work, which is in the hourly format—maybe weekly or bi-weekly—between that and doing an EFT intensive?

And what I tell couples when they ask this question is an intensive is not a magic fix. It's not the end-all, be-all. When I'm doing an EFT intensive, I'm really just doing EFT. It just happens to be in this kind of condensed three or four consecutive days. So, we do get a lot done in a short amount of time. The benefit of an intensive is you sort of stay warm. There's not the week or potentially two weeks between sessions. So, whatever you just did, you get to immediately build off of. And that can be—that's different than what you probably experience in the weekly format in that we get a lot of traction. We get a lot of momentum.

However, an intensive is not real life. And so after an intensive, I tell couples, you really need to have that follow-up work plan. You need to have that next therapist ready to go to help you translate what you did in the intensive to your real life and to finish the process of EFT.

EFT—the entire process—can't be done in three or four days. It's just not realistic. But what you can feel is at the end of an intensive, you can feel relief, you can feel clarity, you can feel connected. It usually gives energy to couples where they really want to do the follow-up work.

So there is incredible benefit to doing both an intensive and then making sure that you do that follow-up work. I would not recommend doing an intensive and that's it. But if you wanted to not do an intensive and just do the weekly or bi-weekly sort of traditional hourly EFT couples work, that is just as effective as doing the combination of intensive first and follow-up work. A lot of it comes down to therapeutic fit. Have you found the right therapist that really feels good for you and your relationship and the model of therapy? I think EFT is extremely effective when it comes to couples work. If you haven't tried EFT, I think you're in for a treat. I think it's incredibly effective.

So, I hope that makes sense when it comes to how do I decide between weekly or a combination of an intensive and then weekly after that. If you want to talk more about it, I do free 30-minute consults, and I have other people on my team that are also doing EFT intensives and they also have consults available.
