Intensive Q & A
Intensive Q&A
Q: Why 3 days?
A: After many years doing different versions of the intensive, we’ve concluded that 3 days is best practice in order to give relationships a chance at rebuilding. One or two days just isn’t long enough to do what we need to do.
Q: Is it cost effective?
A: Frequency is one key to successful counseling. Couples with the best results go to counseling once a week. But a part of each weekly session is spent checking in, kind of like warming up. In the intensive environment, there is no time wasted. Every minute counts towards progress. In most cases, you will save money and, more importantly, get your relationship back on track quicker than with weekly sessions.
Q: What’s the schedule usually like?
A: On the first day, we have three hours of assessment in the morning. The first hour you are together and we look at your relationship history, the next two hours are individual sessions. In the individual sessions we want to hear about your personal history and also what it’s like to be in the relationship, just from your perspective. Then we break for lunch. After the break, we have a two hour session in which we start to unpack your negative interactive pattern. The second day, you’ll start with a two hour block in the morning, one to two hour break for lunch and then two hour block in the afternoon. Same schedule for the third day. At the end of the third day, we’ll spend time reviewing what we did and talking about next steps.
Q: How much?
A: $3,090 for several Red Therapy Group therapists, $4,650 for Kelly Bourque.
Q: How far out do you book and can we do it over a weekend?
A: There are some weekend options (not all of our therapists are available for weekend intensives). Depending on the therapist you want to work with and what’s already on their schedule is what determines how far out you’ll book an intensive. More than likely, you’ll be booking an intensive at least a month out.
Q: What about inclusion?
A: As a group, we are committed to a non-judgmental experience. We all look through a lens that honors what makes us human. We are relational beings, hard-wired to connect. What makes us different is where we want to be especially open, curious and never presume that we are experts. We welcome all, including sexual orientation, age, race, disability, ethnicity/national origin, gender identity and religious/spiritual affiliation. Some of our counselors have specific training and experience working with same-sex couples. If you would like to be paired with one of these counselors, please let our care coordinator know.
Q: Are intensives only for married couples?
A: No! Intensives are for any couples who are committed to a long-term relationship, are dating long-term, are engaged, or have a common law marriage.
Q: Can we do an intensive if we’re not in crisis?
A: Of course! Couples who want to do intensives because it’s more convenient than weekly sessions (not because they’re in crisis) have huge success and usually don’t need as much (if any) follow up work.
