Do We Have to Be in Crisis?
Is doing an intensive overkill if our relationship isn’t falling apart?

Some couples worry that doing an intensive is like overkill or too much. You know, they might say, "We're not in crisis. I don't know that we really need an intensive." And I would say, "Actually, we love getting couples in sooner." This is really our biggest wish is if we could get couples in before they're in crisis.

So, if you like the format of an intensive—you really like the idea of doing three or four consecutive days where you just knock out kind of a bunch of work in a short amount of time—maybe that's appealing to you kind of from a convenience standpoint. Like it's actually easier to sort of treat it as like a retreat, right? Or a getaway. I'm not going to say vacation because it's therapy, but you know what I mean—to treat it as like, "Okay, we're just gonna do this. We're going to block off these days. We're going to get child care if we need it. We're going to take off time from work, and we're going to just like commit and do this."

Sometimes that's actually easier for couples than to try to find the hour every single week or even every other week. It might be that you're just too busy, your life is just not set up for that, and honestly, that's ideal. Those are the types of couples that when they do it really for the format or for convenience, and maybe their relationship could use some help, but it's not like in crisis mode, we can actually get even more done because you came earlier.

So for those couples, yes, think about it, consider it. You can schedule a consult with me or a therapist on my team that does intensives. Just reach out to us at eftmarriageintensive.com.
